Thought for the day January 2018 Have you made any new years resolutions? I would like to have more joy in my life – and I think we can be more intentional about having more joy if we want to. Two key activities that help with that are celebration, and thankfulness. Being grateful for what we do have, and taking time to celebrate the important things, and important people in your life. I’ve got a suggestion for a theme this year – I think it will lead to more joy. The Gospel can be spelt F-R-E-E-D-O-M When we look around, what could people want freedom from?Injustice, tyranny, oppression, hurry, stress, debt, death, perceived expectations (inside me and what others have), “shoulds and oughts”… you could probably add some more. What if this year we could be more free from these things? And we could be part of seeing others free from them? A guy called Paul quite some time ago suggested in a letter he wrote that part of the “good news” is that we can just be ourselves and live life doing what we were born to do. We can live each day with help, and we can live in authentic community with no “ins and outs” – no one more important than the other. That sounds like good news to me. 2018 – the year of freedom. Free to be me, free to be loved.
